The school council is a group of children who represent their peers and bring forward their views to improve the school and its grounds. The school council is made up of one pupil from each class from years 1-6.
New School Council representatives are elected in the Autumn term every year. They wear a badge so everyone knows who they are!
We try to meet once a week, usually on a Wednesday lunch time. The lead teacher, Mrs Curr, takes minutes at every meeting to recap any issues that were discussed and how these have been acted upon. The school council also note down any issues from peers in their school council notebooks and bring these to every meeting to share with the group.
We are a very active group and are currently discussing school lunches with our chef and school business manager. We have also created a pupil comment box so children can post comments or problems they would like us to discuss.
In the future we are also keen on being involved in, and organising fundraising to raise funds for more playground equipment. We would like to see some goal posts and more climbing frames.

Mrs Curr updated the councillors on the status of our recent playground order. The order has started to arrive, but not all has been delivered yet. The children are looking forward to the rest arriving so they can organise it.
The councillors would like find out their classmates thoughts on after school clubs. They would like to see some new after school clubs next year, especially a film club or a board game club. The councillors think the current archery and music after school clubs are very good. They are going to speak to their classmates for 5-10 minutes, to discuss the after school clubs and what the children would like to see.
We also discussed having a football team in Key Stage 2 and were wondering if this is possible? We will discuss this at a later date.

The school council had a meeting with Mrs Denley this week. We discussed the playground equipment we would like to order for break times. Mrs Denley agreed that we can order some new equipment for children to play with outside. We will be ordering this as soon as possible.

This week we have finalised our playground equipment wish list, and have ensured we are within budget. We will be meeting with Mrs Denley after the holidays to finalise the order.
Also this week the school has again been awarded the Investing in Children's Award, as recognition for the work we do in the School Council. The award also recognises the ways in which the whole school listens to our pupils.
Our School Council played a huge part in our interview process this week. As a school, we were looking to appoint some more inspirational teachers, and the School Council formed a mini interview panel to put the candidates to the test. They were so professional, asking questions and responding to answers. They wrote down their thoughts on each candidate's answers and fed back to Mrs Riley. They represented our school wonderfully and we were very proud of them. The children really enjoyed the experience! Well Done!
